Data Exchange is one of Barbara Anna Husar's major works. In 2006, she applied successfully for an art grant to purchase umbilical cords from goats of the Sinai desert, to connect them into a hammock. Funiculus Umbilicalis is the third cycle about the "flow of information", next to buckles and deep fryers. The start is difficult, as the umbilical cord is considered to be the seat of the soul by the Bedouins. The artist acquires her own flock of goats and finds shepherdesses to look after the animals. Over a period of seven years an intact commercial relationship around the umbilical cords is installed. On her numerous journeys, she creates an extensive archive of "Data Exchange Documents", which refers to her cultural exchange with the bearers of the millennia-old nomadic culture and her work in the desert.

Im Jahr 2006 sucht sie mit Erfolg um eine Kunstförderung an, um Nabelschnüre von Ziegen aus der Wüste Sinai zu erwerben, aus denen sie eine Hängematte knüpfen will. Funiculus Umbilicalis ist der dritte Zyklus über das »Fliessen von Information«, neben den Schnallen und Fritteusen. Der Start ist schwierig, gilt doch die Nabelschnur bei den Beduinen als Sitz der Seele. Die Künstlerin erwirbt eine eigene Ziegenherde und findet Hirtinnen, die ihre Tiere hüten. Über einen Zeitraum von sieben Jahren installiert die Künstlerin eine intakte Handelsbeziehung rund um die Nabelschnüre. Auf ihren zahlreichen Reisen entsteht ein umfangreiches Archiv aus »Data Exchange Documents«, das von ihrem kulturellen Austausch mit den TrägerInnen der jahrtausendealten Nomadenkultur und ihrem Schaffen in der Wüste berichtet.
