at a great distance i recognize three dogs running and barking loudly towards me. so far i have only met the dogs of the desert in the presence of bedouin women. a little irritated i look around me, all wide and gentle. our fire place is behind the humps and the dogs hurry towards me, almost as fast as their barking spread over the silence. my nervous system hardly has time to classify this irritation and sooner than thinking i can perceive that these wild dogs are very friendly to me. it is a greeting.
